Cover: "Lions, cheetahs and leopards: each cat has its own special hunting strategies, family
upbringing and survival techniques. We focus on their behaviour and competitive interaction in our quest to
find out who the ultimate predator is in the daunting wilderness of Africa. We follow their lives as they
play out like a game of chance. Cheetahs - masters of the open plains, outsprint other cats at speeds of 110
km per hour. The slightest of the three big cats often lose their kill to heftier predators and scavengers.
Leopards - elusive and silent with shrewd intelligence. They stalk, launching powerful ambushes, often
retreating to the safety of lofty trees with their prizes. Lions tip the scales with their enormous strength
as well as the advantage of cunning teamwork. They often bring down the largest of prey, and ward off
competitors. The challenge forces these cats to use their skills, not only to exist, but to outwit the
others at this dangerous sport. The trophy - survival. The diverse landscape of Mala Mala Private Game Reserve,
in South Africa, favours the hunting strategies and particular lifestyles of all three of the biggest cats
who sit in glory at the very top of the food chain."

Cover: "Survival on the African
grasslands is a daily challenge, even for top predators. Raising young in this environment is even more
daunting. Cheetah and Leopard mothers have to hunt to feed themselves and their cubs. But a successful hunt
exposes the cubs to potentially fatal encounters with marauding lions and hyeanas. Leopards are stalker,
pouncers and the cubs will refine this technique by watching and imitating their mother when they are old
enough. In the meantime, however, she will make the kill alone and allow the cubs to feed first. Cheetahs
are the fastest mammals on land. The cubs will have to learn to control their speed and counter their prey's
evasive techniques. When the cubs are older, the mother will allow them to hone their skills on live prey.
These are Perfect Mothers, striving to raise their cubs to become Perfect Predators."

Cover: "Africa's big cats are masters of ambush, champions of the sneak attack. On the dry African
plains, a pride of lions stalks an unwary zebra. Their bodies hidden from view in the tall yellow grass,
surprise is the key to their success. The cheetah, by contrast, hunts in the open, relying upon its skill as
a sprinter to outrun the Thompson's gazelle. The leopard favours a third strategy. Lurking high in a thorn
tree, it waits for the chance to leap from its branch onto the neck of an impala, grazing below. None has a
definite edge and all are superbly tuned to their habitat and to each other. The great cats of Africa are
key players in the saga of life and death on the African plains. The cats must not only fend for themselves,
they must also protect and care for their young and teach them the skills of a hunter. Each day these
fearsome cats must fight to survive, fight with tooth and claw."
