Klappentext: "When Joy Adamson
published some of her remarkable paintings of the peoples of Kenya in 1967 [The Peoples of Kenya],
few of the millions of readers of her books about the lioness, Elsa [Born Free, Living Free,
Forever
Free], had been previously aware of her talent as an artist. Even then the full range of her
achievements as a water-colourist was not recognised. But now she has been persuaded to allow a selection of
her many other paintings to be reproduced in this book and to tell the story of how she came to make them.
Her earliest pictures in Africa were of the unique indigenous flora and, although she began painting them as
a recreation, she later agreed to illustrate important books on the garden flowers of Kenya, for which she
was awarded the Grenfell gold medal of the Royal Horticultural Society.
Following these beginnings, Joy Adamson turned her attention to the rich variety of other natural life in
Kenya - the brilliant and shimmering coral fish which she sketched on the reef before their colours faded,
some extraordinary chameleons and insects and a few of the beautiful birds. Later she embarked on the series
of paintings depicting the tribesmen of Kenya, most of which now hang in State House,
Nairobi, and Kenya's National Museum. Finally,
her marriage to George Adamson brought her into almost daily contact with wild animals, and the second half
of this book reproduces in colour and monochrome her lively sketches, not merely of the lions and cheetahs
with which she is naturally associated, but hyrax and impala, leopards and a buffalo calf, zebras, oryx and
two baby elephants. This remarkable collection of pictures testifies once more to Joy Adamson's many gifts
and to the breadth and intensity of her exceptional and rewarding interest in the natural life of
Africa."

Verleger: "This new book by one of
America's most prolific and popular artists records in vibrant, colorful images the animals, landscapes, and
people LeRoy Neiman encountered during his African 'painting safari'. For the first time in book form,
Neiman depicts life in the wild with the same curiosity and intensity that he has brought to sports and
social subjects over the past half-century. His brilliant palette and candid prose bring into sharp relief
the mannerisms and attitudes of the wild, independent creatures he encountered while in Africa. In sections
devoted to the 'Big Five' (Lion, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Rhinoceros, and Leopard) and 'Animal Land' (Zebra,
Giraffe, Baboon, Monkey, Warthog, Cheetah, Wildebeest, and Hippopotamus), readers are introduced to these
animals in their natural habitat as they move, meet, graze, hunt - or sometimes just rest in the tall grass.
Afterward, readers visit the artist's camp and 'Maasai Land', where the elegant men and women of this region
pose and dance for him in their proud array."

Klappentext: "The South Luangwa
National Park was only born in 1972. The area had been previously gazetted as a Game Reserve. Covering an
area of over 9000 sq. km the great Luangwa river slowly meanders along the wide valley floor. The mineral
rich soils have created a wide diversity of vegetation, from stands of giant red mahogany, to scrubland and
large open savannah plains. With such rich vegetation, the area supports a huge variety of wildlife,
including large herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as significant populations of impala, puku,
waterbuck, eland and kudu. Thornicroft's giraffe is an interesting subspecies of the common southern giraffe
and is endemic to the Luangwa. The Cookson's wildebeest is another speciality and a subspecies of the common
blue wildebeest. The main predators are lion, leopard and spotted hyena, whilst the endangered wild dog can
quite often be seen. There is also a large variety of resident birdlife with over 400 species recorded.
There are a number of excellent lodges that offer comfortable accommodation and varied game activities such
as day and night drives as well as walking safaris. Once bitten, the Luangwa bug will remain with you
always. Enjoy!"

Klappentext: "Lulu Phezulu (or
'Lulu on top') is the name of the home of Leigh ('Lulu') Voigt, the well-known artist and book illustrator
who lives with her artist husband in the house they built for themselves on a mountain top in a nature
reserve in Mpumalanga. This treasure of a book is at one level a personal account of her and her family's
move from the city to the country and their serendipitous encounters with nature and the local people. It is
also a breathtakingly beautiful natural history notebook filled with Leigh's watercolours and drawings as
well as a wealth of anecdotes, curiosities, lore and legend about the natural world. Lulu Phezulu has
grown over many years out of Leigh's need to express, in both words and pictures, the bush and its
fascination, highlighting the oddities and complexities of some of its engaging characters, both human and
animal. It will appeal to all who have a love of nature and a love of life, both the ordinary and the
extraordinary."

Malawi: Endangered Beauty
David Kelly paints Malawi's protected

Klappentext: "Malawi, The Warm Heart
of Africa. Malawi certainly lived up to this slogan over the years, with very friendly and welcoming people.
Despite its God given beauty, Malawi has never taken full advantage of its tourism potential. Malawi's
landscape varies from high plateau grass plains and woodland with an excellent climate, to low savanna with
higher temperatures at its lowest points. Malawi is in short, very beautiful. It has the potential to offer
a visitor a complete safari experience, because it isn't a big country. With the necessary infrastructure,
travel would be easy, comfortable and stress free. Not much effort has gone into developing tourism because
the country has many other pressing responsibilities like health care, food security etc. I feel an emphasis
should be put on reviving income generating activities and one vital way would be to entice foreigners to
come and experience the hospitality Malawians can offer and also to show them this small, yet beautiful
country. Because of its diverse landscape, it can accomodate a wide variety of fauna and flora therefore
offering something for all enthusiasts. I really hope that this book will enlighten those who aren't aware
of what Malawi has to offer the visitor, and will want to make every effort to visit this beautiful land.
And to the Malawians I say your land is trully beautiful, be proud of it and look after it. God Bless!"
Kontinents."
